This past September, Simpson Thomas and Associates participated in a free legal ‘advice-a-thon’, Pro Bono Going Public 2016. Arranged by Access Pro Bono, the annual Pro Bono Going Public event helps to raise awareness and funds for the provision of pro bono legal services in BC, while funding their operations for the year. The ultimate goal was to raise public awareness of the need for greater legal aid funding, to increase access to justice in BC and to raise much-needed funds for Access Pro Bono’s programs.
Our lawyers Esther Chung, Troy McLelan and Stephen Yung offered free legal advice, during the day, to individual clients who are in need of counsel. In addition, funds were raised by lawyers via personal donation and collecting pledges from colleagues and friends. As a result, the funds raised as part of the Pro Bono Going Public event benefit the public year-long. To assist the pro bono cause further, our lawyers volunteer throughout the year at Access Pro Bono BC’s regular free legal advice clinics.
Our law firm came second place across BC for the amount fundraised. We are proud to take part in this event and were able to raise a significant amount for this worthy cause.
